Dubai Fashion Week FW2011: Gaurav Gupta
Showcasing his creations for the very first time in Dubai, couture designer Gaurav Gupta closed the third day of Dubai Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2011. Inspired by the concept of fluidity in the world, the show was enhanced by audiovisuals of water droplets, smoke billowing, fish fins and bird wings, as they also manifested in abstract designs on the outfits.
The 26-piece show’s highlights included a short orange dress with ruffles down the front paired with matching patterned stockings; an ensemble tapering into the one-legged counterpart of the single-shoulder dress and a brown mermaid dress embellished with matte gold sequins. Structured wool and felt jackets were part of the collection as were dresses ending in unevenly layered tulle.
The traditional Indian sari was presented with a different twist, as multiple chains of gold replaced the traditional sash over the shoulder. Thin pleats and sashes attached to blouses were used to transform the sari into a sleeker form.
The dramatic show had models walk the ramp with the sides of their faces painted pink. The 26-outfit collection in chiffon, jersey and metal mesh fabrics were embellished with bugle beads.
