Auto style: Fiat 500 by Gucci

Whoever said interests in fashion and automobiles never coincide? No one. That’s why Gucci has collaborated with Italian automaker Fiat to celebrate two momentous occasions: the 150th anniversary of the unification of Italy and the 90th birthday of the Florentine fashion house.

The outcome? The 500 by Gucci.

It’s not much, size- and power-wise. But it’s Gucci.

The co-branded Fiat 500, whose origins trace back to the 1950s when it created a style revolution on the narrow roads of Italy, is a limited edition model which features those ever so recognizable Gucci stripes in and out as well as a spruced up interior incorporating lush Guccissima leather and chic embroidery.

For the brand-conscious at which this model is obviously targeted, there are more ways than one to show off your love for the label. The retro Gucci signature is affixed on the door posts as well as the tailgate, so no need to worry that those stripes aren’t going to make enough of a recognizable statement.

No details yet on what kind of drivetrain will be fitted into the supermini, but we’re guessing nothing fancy. At just €17,000, it would be inappropriate to expect Ferrari-like acceleration from this car.

‘But if that disappoints the speed demon in you, you’d find it at least comforting to know that Gucci is releasing a collection of accessories to go with the Fiat 500.

Completing the personalisation is the exclusive 500 by Gucci collection, comprised by travel accessories, small leather goods, tracksuits, bombers, driving gloves, glasses and a watch, available from April in select Gucci stores and online.

The 500 by Gucci will initially be available from April 1st to June 30th, exclusively by pre-order online at www.500bygucci.it. The website is set to go live tomorrow, March 1st. Obviously this won’t be officially sold in the Middle East, but a secondary market for this type of cars exists, and for good reason. Or perhaps this is for those who lead a luxurious double life, one in Dubai and another in Milan?
