Ask La Moda: Are layers good for thin hair?
Every time someone asks us a question about matters of fashion and beauty, we try our best to share our humble opinion based on our personal know-how and, of course, based on the results of our extensive research.
But there are moments when we admit that we need an expert’s thoughts, most especially when the topic at hand is critical, like this one – which if we advised wrongly could probably lead to disaster.
Dear La Moda,
Ok, now I really have a fashion/beauty related question. You see, I want to cut my hair in layers, but unfortunately I don’t have the volume as my hair is thin.
I want to maintain the length of my hair while having it in layers. Can you guys recommend that I cut my hair in layers? Is layered cut for long hair the way to go forward?
I have been thinking about this for quite sometime but I’m a bit scared that getting a layered cut for my thin hair won’t look good. Please let me know your expert answer on this. If you can even share some pics that I can take to my hairdresser, that will help!
Thank you, La Moda. I’m bookmarking this page as I’m sure I will want to ask more in the future.

Well, sue us for not trying but we only want to give our reader the accurate and appropriate answers. Besides, only an experienced hair stylist can guide us perfectly on how we should manage our crowning glory. So, we sought professional opinion from our friends at Ted Morgan Hair in Palm Jumeirah, who helped come up with the solution to our reader’s query.
Here is the response of Elaine Quinn, manager at Ted Morgan Hair :
First of all, layers are perfect for any hair length and are particularly good for those with thin hair. The key is to choose the correct type of layers for your hair type, as you have described your hair as ‘thin’ I would suggest that your keep your layers below the earlobe, cutting above here can result in your hair being too ‘top-heavy’ resulting in the ends looking thin. This hairstyle is very easy to maintain while giving you gorgeous locks.
Take a look through some magazines and rip out some styles you like. This way your stylist has the correct look to go from.
For another change, why not go for a fringe? They work perfectly with layered hair. Even if it is just a subtle sweeping one, there is no better time to try a new style than at the beginning of a New Year.
PS
If questions and anxiety persist, we suggest that you call Ted Morgan at 04-430 8190, visit them in Palm Jumeirah. We hope that from hereon you will never have a bad hair day ever!
Beso beso.
