Saks Fifth Avenue A/W 2010 show

Driving amidst the usually highly-trafficked zone to BurJuman was quite a feat, knowing that we’re running late from squeezing our time to favour the event invites of our close friends in Paule Ka and Saks Fifth Avenue. After we got in and parked our car, we literally ran in heels to make our way to the boutique.
It was an easy task, finding the right spot where the fashion show would be staged that is, inside the massive fashionista’s haven. The transformation of the pleasantly quiet ladies’ section of Saks Fifth Avenue into a buzzing yet enchanting forest, where arch of broken branches enveloped the runway, crowded with beautiful women and men, all dressed to kill, was indeed a recognisable sight.
With over two hundred guests in attendance, the Saks Fifth Avenue Fall/Winter 2010 fashion show was definitely an episode of “If-you’re-going, I’m-going” among friends and colleagues. It apparently was another social scene mania, following the recently held Splash fashion show.
However, unlike the fun and theatrical vibe that everyone’s raving about the Splash show, this one we thought was produced following typical fashion show standards. Imagine models in high fashion ensembles, strutting on the catwalk, while groovy music played in the background, and that’s about it. Perhaps that would explain why we found, in the midst of the show, someone playing solitaire on his iPhone, and some others chatting in whispers about their modelling stint at the recently concluded New York Fashion Week.
But, then again, the collections from Saks Fifth Avenue were divine, making us realise that being at the show was all worth it. The show displayed, albeit for a tad too long, the new trends for both men and women from international brands, housed at the BurJuman store, such as Dolce & Gabbana, Giambattista Valli, Azzedine Alaia, Jil Sander, Ports 1961, Yigal Azrouel, Les Hommes and Adam Jones. Also featured were elegant evening wear from Reem Acra and Naeem Khan, and sophisticated modern abayas from the collection of Redaa by Amal Murad and Kanzi. The iconic red-soled shoes by Christian Louboutin, in a myriad of colours and fabrics, lent further excitement on the runway.
When the show closed after the seemingly vibrant final walk by the models, we just said “hi” to some more friends we ran into, and made our way to Zuma. We’d say that the casual, chill-out aura of the after-party was the perfect way to close the typical yet chic Saks Fifth Avenue A/W 2010 show .
